Your precious little girl is getting married and you are the proudest father alive, not too mention a little sad too. Your daughter has grown up and no longer relies on you for everything. At the wedding you will no doubt want to give a father of the bride wedding speech that will blow them away and portray you best wishes to your daughter and your new son in law.

This will most probably be a very emotional speech for you. Because of this, you will want to write your speech well in advance of the wedding so you can rehearse and mentally prepare for the delivery.

It is easy to think that you will be fine on the day and won’t need to do much preparation. You may think that it would be best if the speech was more natural and that you could just say what was on your mind at the time. However, you may deeply regret not taking the time to craft your wedding speech so you can have clarity while you think about what you want to say.

Getting caught up in the moment and being overcome with emotion could prevent you from saying everything you dearly want to include in your speech and reduce you to stuttering and stammering. Rehearsing well in advance will give you confidence to convey your feelings and you can still ad lib on the day.

Perhaps your speech would benefit from a few funny and affectionate stories about your daughter (without causing her too much embarrassment). Run over your lines with the mother of the bride to help make sure it is spot on.

The father of the bride wedding speech traditionally includes the groom also and possibly a little about how you are proud to have him as a member of the family. The mother of the bride is also usually mentioned in the speech and how you are both very proud of your daughter and her achievements throughout her life.

Don’t worry, if your speech is a little emotional, it is a very emotional day and everyone loves a good cry in happiness. Talk from the heart and no matter if you have rehearsed your lines a million times it will still be heart felt and genuine.

Once you feel confident that you have memorized your speech and are happy with the content. Try saying the lines out loud but adding a few additional anecdotes that will appear like you have just picked them out of the air at the time if you really want to impress.

If you are not used to speaking in public and are a bit nervous about addressing a room full of people, before delivering your speech take a few deep breaths and you can turn towards the bride and groom. Sometimes it is easier to pretend that you are only talking to one person therefore reducing the stress.

Your speech doesn’t have to be hilariously funny, you can leave that to the best man unless you are a joker at heart. The father of the bride wedding speech is one which everyone looks forward to but has no expectation and because you love her, this will naturally translate into a wonderful speech with not a dry eye in sight.
