Your wedding is perhaps the most important day of your entire life, but can also be very expensive. Many couples are looking for ways to have less expensive and smaller weddings, and thus end up planning a wedding at home.

Reserving a church and reception hall typically uses the largest part of your wedding budget. Some couples choose to be married in a church and have a reception at another location, but many modern couples are planning a wedding at home.

There are many advantages to planning a wedding at home. You will save money and not need to pay for your location or venue for either the ceremony or reception. You’ll be more flexible with the time period when planning a wedding at home because you’re not under anyone’s constraints other than your own, and guests will not have to leave by a specific time. Planning a wedding at home also offers the opportunity to have a more intimate celebration, allowing you time to visit with each and every special guest you invite.

Planning a wedding at home also allows you to be married in a place you’re comfortable and most at ease. This will always make it much more memorable, as many will decide to have both the ceremony and the reception at home. There is no forcing your guests to wait at the reception for pictures to be taken, and you don’t need to travel after the ceremony. You may also be able to arrange for out of town guests to stay at your home, too.

When planning a wedding at home, there are some things you’ll need to consider. You first need to determine if you will hold the wedding outside or inside. An indoor wedding requires a large enough home to hold the necessary guests and wedding party comfortably. Of course, the guest list is typically quite small, including only your closest friends and family members.

Another consideration when planning a wedding at home is the needed furniture. Will you need to rent seating for the event? What about an outdoor tent to shield guests from the sun and hot weather? Fortunately, you can save quite a bit of money on decorations, too, as many homes don’t need extra décor to accommodate a classy wedding.

Of course, you can always decide to have an outdoor wedding when planning a wedding at home. This is especially fitting if there’s a large garden or yard. You’ll always need to account for the weather, and have a backup plan in case of rain. Try to rent tents or have a place ready to complete the ceremony inside.

Other considerations when planning a wedding at home is the attire of the wedding party. The dresses and tuxedos or suits should be chosen to be weather-appropriate, depending upon the time of year you plan to have a wedding outdoors.

If you find that you’d rather have a smaller wedding but don’t have the budget to plan a lavish wedding, planning a wedding at home may be the best option for you.
