When planning a wedding, everyone has their priorities but the aspects that get the most attention are the venue, catering, clothing, honeymoon and others. However, the poor flowers often get left to the last minute and it is then purely a matter of taking what you can get, rather than what you would have really wanted.
With a little effort, that doesn’t have to happen and you too can get the wedding flowers that you have pictured in the mental image of your perfect wedding. If you are thinking of employing the skills of a wedding planner, you should be fine if you want to delegate this job. But if there is to be no wedding planner, then make sure you start planning the wedding flowers early on.
Firstly, take the wedding and the color scheme into consideration when deciding on a particular type/s. You may have two or three main colors that you want to incorporate into the wedding flower arrangement. Then you should find out if there is appropriate flowers in season, if you want to keep the costs down. If your wedding is to take place in the summer, you have hit the flower jackpot. If your wedding is to be in the winter, you may have a bit more planning, or you may want to consider silk flowers as an alternative. These are also very beautiful and around half the price of natural flowers, so they are a real option.
Is your wedding taking place outside or inside? This is another factor in the decision making. For an out-door wedding, Roses are always great, as are Irises and perhaps some Lavender. For in-doors you might want to consider Tulips for a spring wedding or lilies. Roses are usually a great choice for both indoors and out.
Once you have selected your flowers with your color scheme, theme and the season in mind, you may want to revise the theme again for the flower arrangements for the ceremony, reception and what form the centerpieces will take.

Remember there are many parts of the area that will be adorned with flowers including, the alter, pews, entrances, centrepieces and more so a selection of flowers may be appropriate, not to mention the bouquet!. However one recurring themed flower can be every bit as nice in the instances of flowers such as Orchids.
Shop around for a florist and decide on one when you are satisfied that you have exhausted every avenue. You want good service as well as beautiful flowers, one is no good without the other. If you can get a recommendation, even better. Prices are obviously an issue but if your budget isn’t too restricted then go for what you feel offers the best quality in all aspects of service.
