One of the most important yet overlooked aspects of decorating for an outdoor wedding or reception is the gazebo. Wedding decorations for the gazebo can accentuate the theme and add elegance to the décor by turning the structure into the showpiece of the event.

With a little imagination, the garden gazebo can become the central focus for guests to congregate around. The trellises and posts make great holders for many different kinds of adornments. Also, the structure of the gazebo itself is important for an outdoor wedding because it can provide shelter should there be an impromptu rain shower. Proper planning and brainstorming can help to turn the gazebo into a romantic centerpiece in a variety of ways.

Materials

With just a few simple materials, gazebos can be transformed for a wedding. One or a few of these ideas can be used to decorate the gazebo and fit into any budget:

Flowers: Silk flowers are easy to work with, won’t lose their beauty, and can be used all over the trellises of a gazebo. You want bridal flowers visible all around the outside and the inside. Contained plants can be brought in as well, such as flowering shrubs, rose bushes, or small trees. With a ladder, you can even add flowers to the roof.

Garlands: Garlands of greenery or flowers can take less time to put up than single flowers or flower sprays. You can also use vines, trailing flowers, and bouquets around the posts.

Tulle: This wedding fabric is versatile for a variety of themes. Just by draping it, you can create a base to glue decorations to, such as ribbon or butterflies. Other light fabric would work too, such as crepe paper, net, lace, or satin.

Ribbon: By alternating colored ribbons around the poles, you can create a maypole look that would be particularly appropriate for a springtime wedding.

Balloons: It’s best to fill balloons with air instead of helium, and attach them with wire or string.

Pearls: For an elegant touch, hang strands of pearls from the roof to hang down the sides. The ‘raining pearls’ look is sophisticated and trendy.

Lights: For evening weddings or receptions, lighting on the gazebo can really set a romantic atmosphere. Lamps or old fashioned lanterns are ideal.

Themes

For a beach themed wedding, you can decorate the gazebo with a sand and aqua color scheme. Seashells and dark green ribbon representing seaweed can complete the look.

For a western themed wedding, you can use the gazebo to hang sheriff stars and decorate the tulle with cowboy hats or the corners with cacti.

Just about any theme can be enhanced with gazebo decorations. Others that would work well include Asian garden, Victorian, Fairytale, Garden, or Renaissance themes.

For maximum effect, gazebo wedding decorations have to be planned out just like any other facet of the wedding. Take pictures of the structure for brainstorming or sketch the components to fill in your ideas. It’s also helpful to take measurements to help know the right amount and lengths of materials to buy.

Hopefully some of these ideas can help you get your creative juices flowing for creating your own beautifully decorated wedding gazebo. With planning and simple materials, the possibilities are limitless.
