Selecting Pretty Wedding Flowers for the Flower Girl

Most people will include a little flower girl at their wedding. The adorably dressed flower girl preceding the bride down the aisle is always popular with the crowd. This age old tradition is a popular feature of most weddings and the symbolic gesture of the throwing of the petals where the bride and groom walk in a new life together is priceless.

As the flower girl will normally be a child, it is important to chose suitable flowers that will be pretty and easy to carry and handle. There is no rules or regulations about what flowers should be chosen but the most popular would probably be marigolds and rose petals.

So, there are two factors to consider here with regards to the flower girl’s task for the wedding, the flowers and the basket which would normally be delicately decorated.

Rose petals are a good choice as they are classic, easy to handle and will always look beautiful. Wicker baskets are great as they are easy to decorate and will compliment the flowers nicely. Or, for an even more rustic look, if that’s what you are striving for, a woven basket made entirely of the branches of the flowers can be used as a pretty alternative. A little pail can also be equally appropriate for the flower girl with ribbons on either side of the handle.

Moving on from the basket of flowers, there is also the head dress for the flower girl. This may take the form of a little garland of pretty flowers or maybe a show of flowers in the style or a hair band. Little rose buds are a popular choice for the this type of headdress.

The dress may incorporate some of the same flowers also, as the whole outfit is usually adorned with flowers. A small flower as a brooch on the shoulder of the dress or at the neckline would be sufficient, no need to go overboard. A corsage for the wrist is another great possibly, providing it is secure enough and lightweight for the child to wear.

You may wish to use silk or fabric flowers for the flower girl. This is becoming an ever popular choice with many types and colors to choose from. They are easy to maintain and will not be so easily prone to damage. Heart shaped flowers are a possibility to incorporate the reason for the wedding and will look great. Using fabric flowers gives a wide range of choice for shapes sizes, and out of season flowers.

Many may give less effort into the planning for the flower girl than other aspects of the wedding planning. However, the flower girl can be instrumental in creating the perfect atmosphere and the little girl herself will want to look the part.
